INFLUENCER INSIGHTS – Welcome to the Influencer Insights Podcast

I want to take a second to introduce myself, talk about who I see this show being for, and share a bit about how it will work. 

So for those of you that don’t know me, I am Abi Hugo and I run the Instagram account and blog The White Thistle

I thought in a second I would share some random facts about me so you can get to know me a bit better. I will keep this brief as I will share an overview of my journey more in a future episode. 

But first I wanted to talk about who this podcast is for…

it is pretty much for anyone who creates original content and shares it on a digital platform. 

So Content Creators, bloggers, Instagrammers, Youtubers, Tiktokkers, Entrepreneurs etc.

Because having Influence isn’t limited to traditional celebrity influencers anymore that have millions of followers.

So whether you have 500 followers and you are still waiting for your first collaboration or 10k, 20k, 50k+ I hope that everyone will find some nuggets of inspiration and information that you can take away and implement. 

I have worked with clients who have their own product or service-based business that have collaborated with other brands, and those that have 1000 followers who have been paid to create content.

It is a collaboration at the end of the day, where one person or brand exchanges something in return for something else and the most traditional…

Can something be called traditional when its still so new?

An example of that is a product in exchange for reach and access to someone else’s audience but that is not the only way…

There are so many ways that you can work with someone in the digital space and I am so excited to dig into all of the good stuff with you!

So, I am a mum of two Henry who is 3, and Emilia who is 1, and I am married to Ian who I met at University. I am an ex-gymnast who has been in the circus. I love wine, coffee and twiglets. My death row meal would be a chicken roast but with a Yorkshire pudding as a must. 

I love dancing in the kitchen to rock or country music (Its safe to say I have a diverse interest in music) 

I was once commissioned to draw Anastasia by her (now ex) husband and I graduated with a Law from the Open University when Henry was one week old.  

I am obsessed with everything related to running my own business, and interiors design and DIY are my absolute passions. 

I started my Instagram account in 2018 and at the time it was an online home decor shop, I have since pivoted to be a full-time content creator and educator. 

Having spent most of my time educating small businesses on how to use Instagram to grow their following and engagement and then turn those followers into paying customers.

I found I really enjoy teaching about Instagram, let’s just say I am passionately obsessed with it, so as my account grew and I started to work with more brands I realised that there was a whole other side of Instagram that could use some coaching and help because they sometimes didn’t even really realise that they were businesses and those people are you my lovely influencers.

So when I say Influencer who do I mean…

I literally mean anyone who shares content online for an audience. So you could be a blogger, Instagrammer, Tiktokker, content creator, business owner/ entrepreneur. 

I have worked with each and every one of those categories teaching them how to monetize their following 

I think influencer marketing is still so new and unknown that a lot of people kind of think of it as a hobby and don’t really realise that there is a serious potential to make a lot of money and treat it like a real business.

Which is why I wanted to create this podcast where I could share my knowledge, as well as bring you some incredible guests to help you guys as much as possible navigate this industry and build an impactful business.

Influencer marketing is fast approaching a $10 billion industry 

It’s up from $6.6 in 2019 to $9.7 in 2020. The pandemic has shown just how valuable influencer marketing is. Traditional advertising platforms and strategies ground to a halt where businesses were unable to push ad spend into creating the huge campaigns with a full creative directive. 

Think about ads you see on the TV, they will have had to employ a videographer, editor, director, makeup artist, hairstylist, model… the list goes on. 

Back when everyone was at home brands pivoted and pushed more of their ad spend into the influencers who were already used to creating content for their audiences without a huge production team. 

What I find so exciting is that Influencer Marketing is only going to get bigger as people continue to consume social media more and more.

Every new platform that comes out, like Tik-Tok, YouTube Shorts, etc. every aspect of video marketing, influencer marketing, social media marketing has the potential to be monetised and as we get more into that as the podcast goes on I think there needs to be more education for people setting up these accounts and how to look out for themselves, negotiate pitches, set themselves up like a real business and make sure that they are not being taken advantage of. 

I mean we’ve all had to start small you know, accepting PR products and things like that but at the end of the day if you’re creating content regularly that is of value to your audience, and a brand wants access to your content and audience, that is your time your energy that you are spending putting into that and the brand will benefit from that marketing so you should be paid for your time and energy.

So as I said in my introduction the reason I wanted to start a podcast like this is that I have seen a rise in influencer accounts and content creator accounts over the past year. 

We’ve all been in lockdown and perhaps it’s happened as everyone has had a little bit more time on their hands, maybe to be more creative and explore their passions and interests and I just want to make sure that everyone has the information to hand that they need in order to make their accounts as successful as possible and I believe that rising tide raises all ships and so I want to share this information as much as possible and that’s what this podcast is here to do for you.

How this Podcast is going to work

Each week I will be bringing you bite-size content pieces that you can consume and implement because I think that’s the biggest thing is we can all binge on podcast, blogs, videos trying to educate ourselves to our hearts content but the important part is actually implementing so I want to make sure that each episode is not too overwhelming and that you have valuable takeaways on what you need to in order to actually take action on the advice that I’m sharing.
